BFT Welding & Fabrication: The Brooklyn Owner’s Guide

If your BFT gate has a cracked hinge, a snapped bracket, a bent post mount, or a weld that let go after years of Brooklyn weather, we can match the fabrication to your exact BFT model and have it installed quickly. Typical BFT welding and fabrication work in Brooklyn runs between $180 and $650 depending on whether we’re repairing an existing steel mount, fabricating a new bracket, or rebuilding a hinge plate that carries real weight. We stock common BFT-compatible steel stock, plate, and tube on our trucks, and we can handle most fabrication jobs the same day we diagnose the problem.

Most Brooklyn owners discover this kind of failure the hard way: the gate starts dragging on one corner, a hinge bolt shears, or a weld seam cracks after a winter of salt and freeze-thaw cycles. You’ll hear a scrape or a groan first, then see daylight where metal used to meet metal. It’s not dramatic. It’s just steel that finally let go. And it’s exactly the kind of thing we fix for BFT systems on a regular basis.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT uses different steel and aluminum fittings across its model lines, and the fabrication has to match the gate’s weight class, not just the brand name. The Deimos, Phobos, and Giuno series each use different hinge geometry, post plate dimensions, and arm mounting points. The Sub and Kustos lines for residential duty have lighter steel sections than the heavier commercial units, and we’ve seen well-meaning welds fail on BFT gates when someone used the wrong material thickness.

Here’s the part that trips people up: the hinge plates and mounting brackets on a BFT gate are often purpose-built for that exact model, but the steel they’re made from is standard A36 or 1018 cold-rolled. That means a skilled fabricator can reproduce a BFT mount, plate, or bracket to factory dimensions without paying a premium for an OEM part that may take two weeks to arrive from a distributor. For BFT systems, we fabricate replacement brackets to match the original bolt pattern, material thickness, and load rating. When an OEM part is cheaper or faster, we tell you that too. We’re not married to either option. We’re married to a gate that closes square and stays closed.

To identify your BFT model, look at the control box label or the motor housing. You’ll find a model name and a serial number. The arm and hinge assemblies often have their own part numbers stamped on the steel. If you can’t find a label, measure the gate leaf, weigh it if you know it, and snap a photo of the damage. We can usually identify the right fabrication from those three things.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags or drops at the latch end. This usually means a hinge weld has stretched or cracked, or a post plate has pulled loose. Steel doesn’t sag gradually without a reason. Something below the gate is letting go.
  • You see a crack running through a bracket or hinge plate. Surface rust and hairline cracks go hand in hand. Once water gets into a stress point, the freeze-thaw cycle in Brooklyn widens that crack every winter.
  • The actuator arm cocks sideways when the gate moves. BFT arms transfer force in a straight line. When the mounting tab bends or the weld egg-shapes the bolt hole, that force goes diagonal and the gate jerks or stalls partway.
  • Bolts shear or keep loosening even after tightening. A bolt that won’t stay tight is a bracket that’s deformed. The metal around the hole has stretched, and no amount of torque fixes that. The part needs to be reinforced or replaced.
  • Rust has flaked deep enough to leave a void in the steel. Brooklyn’s coastal humidity and salted winter air accelerate corrosion. If you can see a pit or a missing chunk in a load-bearing plate, that part has maybe one season left before it fails outright.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For BFT welding and fabrication work in Brooklyn, expect to pay between $180 and $650 depending on what we’re building or repairing. A simple cracked bracket weld or hinge plate repair runs $180 to $320. Fabricating a new post mount plate or rebuilding a hinge assembly with proper gussets costs more, typically $350 to $650, because we’re cutting, drilling, welding, and fitting steel to match your original BFT dimensions.

Every quote includes parts, labor, and the written price before we start. That’s not an add-on. That’s just how we work, and it’s Cody Beckman’s rule, not a sales tactic. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the fabrication and the install: if it’s not right, we make it right. No argument, no fine print.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do: take photos of the crack or failed weld, note your BFT model number, and wipe away rust scale so you can see the full extent of the damage. Don’t put a wire wheel to it if you’re not sure how thin the steel has gotten. Don’t attempt to weld a load-bearing bracket as a DIY fix. Welding BFT gate hardware involves heat control, correct filler metal, and knowing how much steel is enough steel. A bad weld on a hinge plate can fail catastrophically while the gate is in motion. That’s a multi-hundred-pound steel leaf swinging on a joint you just made. It deserves a qualified welder’s attention.

If the weld holds your gate closed at night, it’s worth a phone call. Call (934) 649-3673 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a quick repair or a full fabrication. Either way, you’ll know the price before we pick up the welding torch.
