Viking Welding & Fabrication: The Brooklyn Owner’s Guide

If you own a Viking gate and the frame has cracked at a weld, a hinge has torn loose, or a post has shifted, we stock and install Viking-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Brooklyn, usually same day or next day. Most welded repairs and fabricated bracket replacements on Viking residential gates run between $225 and $650 installed, depending on the metal thickness and whether we’re repairing in place or fabricating a new section at the shop. You’ll get a written price before any work starts, so the number doesn’t move after we begin.

The way most Brooklyn owners find out is straightforward: the gate starts dragging on one corner, or it makes a sharp creak that wasn’t there last month, or a kid leans a bike against it and the whole frame flexes more than it should. By the time you can see daylight through a cracked weld, the metal has usually been working loose for months. Cody Beckman has seen enough Viking gates along the brownstone blocks near Prospect Park to know which welds fail first on which models, and it’s rarely a mystery once we look.

Which Viking Models This Applies To

Viking gate frames and posts come in a few distinct construction styles, and the welding approach changes with each. The older residential swing gate lines, particularly the Viking Estate and Viking Prestige series, used 2-inch square steel tubing with welded corner gussets. Those corner gussets are the first thing to crack after years of Brooklyn freeze-thaw cycles and the occasional car mirror clip. The newer Viking Titan and Viking Pro lines use slightly heavier 2.5-inch tubing, but the hinge plates are still welded on rather than bolted through, which means a hinge tear-out is a welding job, not a bolt replacement.

When we arrive, we check the sticker or stamped plate on the gate frame near the bottom rail. You can also measure the tubing width: 2 inches points to the older Estate and Prestige lines, 2.5 inches to Titan and Pro. For Viking specifically, we recommend OEM Viking hinge plates and post brackets when they’re available, because the hole spacing matches exactly. For the steel repair itself, a quality aftermarket A36 structural steel plate welded and primed properly does the job as well as the factory weld, often better, because we can add a gusset where Viking didn’t. One compatibility gotcha: the Titan post caps are press-fit, not welded, and trying to weld one in place warps the cap and ruins the seal. We replace those, not weld them.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate drags on the latch side even after hinge adjustment. The hinge-side frame rail has likely sagged at a cracked weld. When the weld opens even an eighth of an inch, the entire gate drops and the latch no longer lines up with the strike plate.
  • A sharp creak or pop when the gate moves. That sound is metal on metal at a failing joint. A weld that hasn’t fully separated yet will complain before it lets go, especially on colder mornings when the steel contracts.
  • Visible rust bleeding from a joint or corner. Water gets into the hairline gap at a stressed weld and starts corroding from the inside. By the time rust stains the paint, the weld underneath is typically compromised well beyond surface patching.
  • The post leans or wobbles when you push the gate open. The post base plate weld or the post itself has failed at ground level. In Brooklyn, where many posts sit in concrete that’s fifty years old, we often find the weld is fine but the concrete has crumbled and the plate has shifted.
  • The gate frame flexes visibly when a kid or a dog leans against it. A healthy steel gate frame doesn’t flex much. Visible movement means one or more structural welds have separated, and the remaining metal is carrying a load it wasn’t sized for.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we typically see for Viking welding and fabrication work in Brooklyn:

  • Cracked weld repair, in place: $225 to $380. We grind out the old weld, re-weld, grind smooth, prime, and touch up the area. Most single corner cracks fall in this range.
  • Hinge plate replacement or reinforcement: $280 to $450. Includes cutting off the failed plate, welding on a new Viking-compatible plate or reinforcing the existing one, and re-hanging the gate.
  • Full corner gusset fabrication and weld: $350 to $500. When the corner is too far gone to simply re-weld, we cut and shape a new steel gusset at the shop and weld it in.
  • Post base repair or replacement welding: $400 to $650. Depending on whether the post can be re-welded in place or needs to be pulled, re-set, and welded fresh.

The spread comes down to steel thickness, access, and whether the concrete around the post needs work too. Every job includes the full written price before we touch anything, shoe covers and drop cloths if we step through the house, and a photo of the cleanup before we leave. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every weld and fabrication job: if it isn’t right, we make it right, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: look for visible cracks at the corners and hinge plates, push lightly on the gate to feel for flex, and note where the rust is bleeding from. That gives us useful information before we arrive. What you shouldn’t do is weld a gate frame yourself with a borrowed flux-core welder. A gate that falls off its hinges weighs several hundred pounds, and a weak weld on a moving gate is more dangerous than the crack it replaced. Brooklyn garages and driveways are tight spaces, and a gate coming loose near kids or pets is a problem you don’t want to test.

If you’d rather have it done once and done right, call us at (934) 649-3673. We’ll give you a straight answer about what’s wrong and what it costs, in writing, before we start.
