Get your free estimateMighty Mule Welding & Fabrication: The Brooklyn Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Mighty Mule-compatible welded components and fabrication work across Brooklyn, with most jobs landing between $180 and $650 installed depending on what failed and which model you’re running. The work usually takes two to four hours, and we carry common Mighty Mule weld brackets, gate frame reinforcements, and hinge assemblies on the truck so we can often finish the same day. Owners typically discover the failure one of two ways: the gate starts sagging visibly toward the latch side, or the opener strains and shuts off mid-cycle because the frame has twisted enough to bind the arm.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
The welding and fabrication side of Mighty Mule work spans the FM, MM, and RB series dual-swing gate openers, plus the lighter-duty FS models owners often bolt onto chain-link or tube-frame gates in Brooklyn backyards. The part that fails varies by series: MM and FM units put real torque through the gate bracket, so the welded post bracket or the gate’s own tube frame gives out first. The RB and FS series tend to shear the smaller bracket hardware or crack the thin-wall tubing rather than the bracket itself.
Identifying your part means looking at the metal, not the opener box. Find the mounting bracket bolted to the gate leaf. If it’s a cast piece, that’s OEM Mighty Mule. If it’s a flat steel plate with gussets, someone made or modified it. An OEM replacement from Mighty Mule is fine, but on older welded brackets a quality fabricated steel replacement often outlasts the original because the original was sized for coastal-climate assumptions, not years of Brooklyn freeze-thaw cycles against a heavy wood gate. We’ll tell you honestly which makes sense for your gate before we put a torch to anything.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate drops a half inch or more at the free end. That sag usually means the welded hinge barrel has worn egg-shaped, or the gate frame tube has cracked where the opener bracket attaches.
- The opener arm makes a clunk at the start of travel. A loose or cracked weld at the bracket lets the arm shift before the gate moves, and the shock travels straight through to the gearbox.
- The gate leaf flexes when a kid swings on it. Tube-frame gates eventually crack at the mid-rail welds. That flex is the crack working open a little more each time.
- Fresh rust staining runs down from a weld joint. Moisture gets inside the tube and bleeds rust through the pinholes that formed first at the weld seam. We see this constantly on gates facing the wind off the East River.
- The post bracket moves when the opener pushes. If the bracket wiggles at all, the bolts are working their way through the steel. Ignore it long enough and the bracket tears out entirely, usually at the worst possible time.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a typical Mighty Mule weld repair in Brooklyn, you’re looking at $180 to $320 to cut out and replace a cracked gate frame section or re-weld a broken hinge barrel. A full gate frame fabrication with new mounted brackets runs $400 to $650, depending on gate size and steel weight. The spread comes down to how much of the old metal is salvageable, whether we need to remove the gate leaf to weld it flat, and whether the post itself needs reinforcing. Every quote includes the written price before we start, the steel and weld consumables, and the cleanup after. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers all of it. If the weld fails or the gate sags within a year, we come back and make it right. No argument.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things without touching a tool: look for rust bleed at the welds, give the gate a gentle lift at the free end to feel for slop, and watch the bracket while someone else cycles the opener. That tells you a lot. What we don’t recommend is repairing weld joints yourself. Welding a gate frame in place means grinding, shielding gas, and controlling heat around the opener’s electronics and any wiring run through the tubing. Done wrong, the gate is weaker than before and you’ve cooked the harness inside the frame. It’s worth calling us at (934) 649-3673 for a free estimate. We’ll tell you exactly what’s broken and what it costs before anything gets cut.
A gate that sticks today doesn’t fix itself by next week, but it usually isn’t as complicated as it looks either.
FAQs
OEM welded brackets on a properly installed Mighty Mule opener typically last 8 to 12 years in Brooklyn before fatigue or rust requires attention. Coastal or flood-zone properties closer to Jamaica Bay or the Rockaways should expect the lower end of that range. If your gate faces the weather without a good paint or powder coat, even a quality fabrication job deserves a repaint by year eight.
Yes, in most cases. If the crack is isolated to one section of tube or one hinge barrel, we can cut out the damaged section and weld in fresh steel with a sleeve behind it for strength. The exceptions are gates with multiple cracks, severe internal rust, or thin-wall tubing that has already collapsed. Call (934) 649-3673 and we’ll give you a straight answer, usually just from photos.
Most Mighty Mule weld repairs in Brooklyn take two to four hours on site, assuming the gate leaf doesn’t need to come off and go to a flat surface. A full gate frame fabrication is usually a half-day job. We bring everything on the truck so we’re not running for steel mid-job.
We stock common steel profiles, hinge barrels, gusseted bracket plates, and Mighty Mule-compatible hardware on the truck. If your model needs a specific OEM cast bracket, we can typically source it same-day from our parts channels in the metro area. We also keep parts for LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing on hand for the mixed-brand driveways and shared gates common around Prospect Park and Park Slope.
