We’re a small crew that has been working on Brooklyn gates since 2009, and we’ve stayed small on purpose. Every technician who shows up at your door is someone we know personally, someone we’ve trained on the specific gates and openers Brooklyn homes actually have, and someone who answers to Cody Beckman, our owner. We don’t sub out work to strangers. The person who diagnoses your gate is the person who fixes it, and the person who fixes it is the person who cleans up before leaving. That’s been the rule since day one.

Our People
Cody Beckman, Owner
Cody started Latch and Post in 2009 as part of the Cedarwell family of independently owned and operated gate specialists. He still rides out on calls most weeks, and he’s the one who set the standard that every job gets a written price before any work starts. Cody is factory-trained on LiftMaster, FAAC, and DoorKing openers, and he has a habit of pointing at a forty-year-old latch and saying it “had a good run” before he swaps it out. He lives in Brooklyn and treats every job like the gate is on his own block, because most of the time it is.
Marcus T., Senior Installer
Marcus has been hanging gates in Brooklyn for over twelve years, the last seven of them with us. He specializes in full gate installations and post work, which in Brooklyn usually means dealing with fences that were installed decades ago by someone who didn’t leave a level anywhere near the property. Marcus is our go-to for DoorKing and Viking swing gate systems, and he’s the one we send when a post needs to be set in concrete and braced to stay right for years. He keeps a photo on his phone of every finished install, and he’ll show you the before and after if you ask. On weekends he restores old bicycles, which explains why he’s patient with rusted hardware.
Yelena R., Lead Gate Repair Technician
Yelena is our diagnostics specialist, the person who figures out why an opener hums but doesn’t move or why a gate drifts shut after you open it. She’s certified on BFT, FAAC, and Ghost Controls systems, and she handles most of our electric gate repair calls across Brooklyn, from Sheepshead Bay up through Greenpoint. Yelena carries a multimeter, a torque wrench, and a small bag of hardware that she’s curated over six years on the job. She asks before she moves anything in your yard, and she’s the reason we get so many callbacks from customers whose gates work correctly on the first visit.
Devon P., Service Coordinator and Apprentice Technician
Devon is the voice on the phone when you call, and he also rides along on installs and repairs while he finishes his factory training on Linear and Mighty Mule openers. He knows the schedule, the parts inventory, and which neighborhoods we’re in on any given day. Devon grew up in Flatbush and can tell you which blocks have the worst gate rust because they catch salt spray off the Belt Parkway. He’s the one who confirms your written quote before the crew arrives and who makes sure the cleanup photo gets sent before we pull away. Devon has a one-year-old lab mix named Piston who chews through leashes, so he understands gates, fences, and containment better than most.
One Standard, Every Job
Every technician who wears the Latch and Post uniform works to the Cedarwell C.A.R.E. values, and we don’t treat those as a poster on a wall. Clean up like it’s your own home. Ask before you move or touch anything. Respect the family’s time and quiet hours. Explain the price before the work starts. That’s the routine on every single visit, whether we’re replacing a latch in Park Slope or running wire for an electric opener in Bay Ridge. It means shoe covers go on before we step inside, drop cloths go down before tools come out, and a photo of the clean-up is taken before we leave. It means if we’re at your house at 2 PM and there’s a baby napping, we use quiet tools and keep the radio off. It means you get a written price before anything happens, with no pressure to say yes. And it means the 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every repair and installation in Brooklyn, no fine print. That’s the job we focus on: every gate comes down to two parts, the latch that holds it and the post that carries it. We make sure both work every time.
