BFT Gate Installation in Brooklyn: What to Know First

BFT gate installation in Brooklyn usually takes one full day for a standard single swing gate, and two days when we’re building a double gate or a sliding gate on a new steel track. The honest price posture is this: we hand you a written number before any work starts, and that number doesn’t move unless we find structural damage we couldn’t see from the surface. If you own a BFT operator and need the gate itself installed, aligned, or rebuilt around it, call (934) 649-3673. This page is for Brooklyn homeowners who already have the BFT motor or arm, and need the gate that goes with it done right.

How BFT Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

  • BFT Deimos BT A-series arms on heavy Brooklyn gates. The Deimos line is a workhorse, but when it’s bolted to a solid iron gate that weighs more than the actuator’s duty rating, the internal limit switches burn out. We see this on older Park Slope brownstone gates that were beautiful in 1980 and heavy as a bank vault. We fix it by checking gate weight against BFT’s spec sheet, adding a sturdier hinge if needed, and only then mounting the arm. A lighter gate means the operator stops eating its own limits.
  • Phobos sliding gate motors and salt air. Brooklyn’s winters put salt on every driveway, and salt spray finds its way into the Phobos gear housing. The result is a gate that shudders mid-travel and eventually stops. We open the housing, clean the worm gear, replace the grease with a marine-grade product, and reseal the cover. It’s a $180 to $260 job in most cases. BFT’s own documentation doesn’t list this as a routine service item, but in our experience it’s the number one Phobos issue in the borough.
  • BFT remote control interference near Navy Yard frequencies. Some blocks near the Brooklyn Navy Yard and along the Gowanus have radio noise that makes BFT remotes work only from ten feet away. We install a high-gain antenna or reconfigure the receiver to a less crowded band. This is a known quirk in the area, and it saves owners from replacing remotes that were never actually broken.
  • BFT swing gate hinge plates pulling out of old brick pillars. Brooklyn brick from the 1920s doesn’t hold standard lag bolts well. We drill through and use a stainless plate on the inside face of the pillar, then sleeve the bolt holes with epoxy. The gate hangs straight and doesn’t drag. If you’ve had another installer tighten the same hinge twice, this is why it keeps slipping.
  • BFT hydraulic operators on gates with no mechanical stop. BFT hydraulic rams push until they hit resistance. Without a physical gate stop on the pillar or ground, the ram overextends and the seals fail. We install a steel gate stop and set the internal limit correctly. That combination is most common on new construction where the gate was mounted before the site was finished.

Our BFT Gate Installation Process

  1. 1
Call and describe the gate. We answer live, every time. Tell us the BFT model number, the gate material, and whether it’s a swing or slide. We’ll give you a ballpark over the phone and schedule a visit.
  2. 2
On-site measurement and a written price. We show up in uniform, measure the opening, check the pillars or track, and weight the gate. Then we hand you a written price. You approve it before we unload a single tool.
  3. 3
Parts decision: OEM vs quality aftermarket. For BFT control boards and limit switches, we use BFT OEM parts because the voltage and connector geometry are specific. For gate hardware like hinges, tracks, and wheels, we often use equivalent US-made parts that outperform BFT’s own at a lower cost. We tell you exactly which is which and why.
  4. 4
Installation and alignment. We mount the gate first, then mate the BFT operator to it. The order matters. A motor bolted to a misaligned gate will fail early, and we don’t let that happen.
  5. 5
Full test cycle and adjustments. We run the gate open and closed at least eight full cycles, adjust the slow-down points, and check the safety edges and photocells. Then we mark the lubricant points and note the model for future service.
  6. 6
Cleanup photo and handoff. Shoe covers came off at the door. Drop cloths get folded up. We take a photo of the clean work area before we leave and show it to you. Then we walk you through the gate’s operation and hand you the written record of what we did.

What BFT Gate Installation Costs in Brooklyn

For a standard BFT swing gate installation on existing pillars, Brooklyn homeowners typically pay between $850 and $1,600. That includes mounting the gate, installing or reusing the BFT actuator, wiring the operator, and setting the open and close limits. A new sliding gate on a steel track with a BFT Phobos motor runs $2,200 to $4,300, depending on gate width and how much track prep the driveway needs. Double gates add roughly 40% to the single-gate price. Structural pillar work, new concrete, or trenching for power can push the number higher, and we’ll always show you that on the written estimate before the work begins. Why Brooklyn Homeowners Call Latch and Post Gate Repair Brooklyn for BFT Work

Cody Beckman grew up in Los Angeles and learned metalwork at LA Trade-Technical College before spending close to two decades on gates full-time. He and the crew have been working Brooklyn blocks for years now, including the brownstone rows near Prospect Park where an iron slide gate and a cedar driveway gate each demand a different touch. We’re an independent BFT service provider, not a sales channel. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every installation: if the gate isn’t right, we come back and make it right. No argument, no fine print. We also service LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing, which matters when a Brooklyn home has more than one operator brand on the property. A live person answers our phone 24/7, and we show up with shoe covers, drop cloths, and a written price every single time.
