We stock and install Elite-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Brooklyn, with most hinge, bracket, and weld repair jobs running between $180 and $420 installed, usually completed the same visit. You’ll know it’s failed when the gate starts sagging toward the latch side, scrapes the ground at the far end, or develops a crack you can see at a weld joint near the post. If the gate still opens but leans, it’s almost always a weld or bracket that’s given up after years of freeze-thaw cycles along the Brooklyn waterfront and inland blocks alike.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite gate openers and their matching steel frames share a common mounting language: most residential swing and slide models use a 4-bolt hinge pattern with either a 2-inch or 3-inch post clearance, and the bracket arms are cut for a specific throw. We always check the label on the operator first, because Elite makes a few lines where the bracket that fits an SL3000 will not fit an SL5000 without shimming and drilling. If the label’s gone, we measure the arm length and the pivot spacing, then match against the original spec before anything gets ordered or cut.
For most Brooklyn homes, the question is whether to pay for OEM Elite steel or a quality aftermarket equivalent. We carry both. The OEM route keeps the original engineering spec, which matters when the gate is heavy or exposed to the salt air near Sheepshead Bay and Gerritsen Beach. A quality aftermarket bracket or hinge, cut from the same gauge steel and powder-coated, can save 20% to 30% and remain fully supported under our workmanship warranty. The difference is usually corrosion coating, not strength, and we’ll tell you honestly which one fits your gate and your budget before we order.

Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate drags at the far end. A weld at the hinge post has stretched or cracked, letting the whole leaf drop. On a brick brownstone walk near Prospect Park, we see this after a hard winter when the footing shifts a quarter inch and stress concentrates at the top hinge.
- You can see a rust line running along a weld. That’s water getting under a failed powder coat. In Brooklyn weather, once the rust line appears, the metal behind it is losing thickness every season. It usually still holds for a few months, which is why I say it had a good run when we cut it out.
- The gate shudders or bounces when it starts moving. A loose bracket or a cracked gusset lets the operator push energy into flex instead of motion. This is also what wears out the opener’s gearbox early, so it pays to catch it now rather than replacing the motor later.
- The operator works but the gate doesn’t move smoothly. A twisted or broken weld at the drive arm connection is the typical culprit. The motor turns, the arm slips, and the gate lurches.
- You find fresh metal shavings or dust under a pivot point. That’s galling from a hinge or bracket that’s been metal-on-metal for months. Left alone, it’ll wallow out the mounting hole, and a $40 bearing replacement becomes a full post-side rebuild.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Brooklyn, an installed Elite-compatible hinge or bracket replacement runs $180 to $320 for a single gate leaf. Adding a full weld repair at the post, with grinding, re-welding, and re-coating, lands between $280 and $420 depending on access and how much of the original steel is salvageable. You’ll always get a written number before we touch anything, with parts and labor broken out on the same sheet.
The range is driven by three things: gate weight, post condition, and whether we need to bring a mobile welder or can bolt in a pre-fabricated bracket. Heavier steel gates, like the slide gates along Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst driveways, push toward the higher end because the bracket work has to be jigged precisely. Every replacement is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise, and the written price is the price you pay, agreed before we start.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the label on the operator, measure the visible bracket arms, and photograph the failing weld or rust line. That’s enough for us to give you a rough price over the phone. What you shouldn’t do is attempt to weld an Elite gate bracket yourself. Gate welding is structural, and a bad bead can fail without warning while someone is walking through. It’s also a lot of force if a spring or the gate’s own weight shifts mid-repair.
If the gate is light and the hinge bolts are simply loose, tightening them with the gate blocked in place is reasonable. But if you see a crack, rust line, or sag, call us at (934) 649-3673. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a bracket swap or a weld repair, and you’ll have the exact price in writing before the first tool comes off the truck. A gate that sticks today doesn’t fix itself by next week, but it usually isn’t as complicated as it looks either.
FAQs
In Brooklyn’s coastal air and winter road salt, an original Elite weld or bracket typically lasts 8 to 14 years before rust or fatigue shows. Gates closer to the water, like those in Sheepshead Bay or near the Gowanus, tend to run on the shorter end unless they’re re-coated every few years.
Yes, often. If the surrounding steel is still thick enough to hold a new bead, we grind the crack clean, re-weld, and coat it. We replace the bracket only when the metal is too thin or the mounting hole has wallowed out. The price difference is usually small enough that replacement gives better long-term value.
Most single-gate replacements run 90 minutes to two hours on site. Full post-side weld repairs with cooling time and re-coating can run three hours. We keep the work area covered and leave a photo of the clean-up before we go, so you know exactly what the driveway looked like when we got there.
We stock common Elite-compatible hinge brackets, drive-arm brackets, and weld-in gussets for the SL and CS slide-gate lines, plus equivalent parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls setups. Less common model-specific pieces are ordered to spec and arrive within a few days. Call (934) 649-3673 and we’ll check the truck list while you’re on the phone.
