A LiftMaster access control installation in Brooklyn typically runs $450 to $1,100 fully installed, depending on whether you need the keypad, telephone entry unit, or a complete keypad-plus-receiver package wired into an existing gate operator. We stock LiftMaster-compatible access control components on our trucks and can usually have your system working the same day we diagnose it. Most Brooklyn homeowners discover the problem the annoying way: they pull up to the driveway, punch in the code, and nothing happens. Or the keypad works fine from the street but won’t trigger the gate from the house. Sometimes the system goes down quietly after a rainstorm, and sometimes the keypad buttons just stop responding one morning.
Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To
We work on the full range of LiftMaster access control equipment that Brooklyn homes actually use. That includes the LiftMaster KPR2000 keypad, the 86LM and 412HM receivers, the LiftMaster CAPXL and CAPXM telephone entry systems, and the myQ-connected Smart Video Intercom. The keypad models are the most common point of failure we see, especially on gates that face south or west and take full Brooklyn summer heat all afternoon.
Before you order anything, check the label inside your existing keypad or receiver. The model number is printed directly on the circuit board or on a sticker inside the housing. Don’t rely on the outside of the case, because we’ve seen plenty of gates where someone swapped the housing years ago and the internals don’t match what the cover says. When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, our honest recommendation for LiftMaster is to stick with OEM keypads and receivers. The aftermarket knockoffs we’ve tested tend to have weaker RF range and fail earlier in Brooklyn’s humidity cycle. For the mounting hardware and wire, quality aftermarket is fine.

Signs Your LiftMaster Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad lights up but won’t open the gate. This usually means the keypad still has power but the RF signal isn’t reaching the receiver. The most common culprit in Brooklyn is a receiver antenna that’s been bent or corroded by years of coastal humidity and winter salt air.
- You have to press each button multiple times to get a response. The membrane switches inside LiftMaster keypads wear out, especially the number keys used most often. We see this constantly on gates where the keypad is the primary entry for deliveries and dog walkers.
- The system works in dry weather but dies after rain. Water is finding its way into the housing through a cracked gasket or loose wire entry. Brooklyn’s freeze-thaw cycle widens hairline cracks in the plastic over two or three winters until moisture reaches the board.
- Intermittent range issues from inside the house. A remote that works from the kitchen but not the second floor points to receiver sensitivity loss. After about seven to nine years in Brooklyn’s climate, the receiver capacitors drift enough that range drops by half.
- The keypad beeps but the gate operator does nothing. The relay inside the receiver isn’t closing, or the wire between the receiver and the operator has a break. We often find this after a fence contractor or landscaper nicked the low-voltage wire during a project.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A straightforward LiftMaster keypad replacement in Brooklyn runs between $180 and $320 installed. A receiver swap lands between $150 and $280. A full access control install with a new telephone entry system and keypad runs $650 to $1,100. The spread comes down to which model you need, how much wiring has to be pulled, and whether your gate operator is old enough that it needs a new receiver as well.
Every price we quote is a written number you’ll see before any work starts. That includes the part, the labor, the wiring, and the programming. If we find something unexpected once we open the housing, we stop, explain what we found, and give you a new written number before touching anything else. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work: if it isn’t right, we come back and make it right. No argument, no fine print. We also lay drop cloths and wear shoe covers any time we step inside your home, and we send you a photo of the cleanup before we leave.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself before calling. Look at the keypad for visible cracks in the housing, especially around the mounting screws. Check that the wire connections at the gate operator are tight. And if the keypad is battery-powered, swap in fresh batteries before anything else. Those three checks solve maybe fifteen per cent of the access control calls we get in Brooklyn.
What we don’t recommend is opening the keypad housing on a hardwired unit or running new low-voltage wire yourself if you’re not comfortable with electrical work. LiftMaster keypads carry low voltage, so the shock risk is minimal, but a crossed wire can fry the control board on a $900 gate operator. The bigger risk we see is a homeowner who drills a new mounting hole into a brick pillar and hits the old wire inside. That turns a $250 keypad replacement into a $600 wire re-pull. If you’re unsure, call us at (934) 649-3673 and we’ll tell you what you’re dealing with before we even schedule the visit.
FAQs
Plan on seven to ten years for the keypad and receiver before Brooklyn’s weather starts causing failures. Keypads with direct southern exposure usually go first, since the UV breaks down the plastic membrane and the summer heat stresses the circuit board solder joints.
Sometimes we can, if the issue is a corroded wire connection or a loose terminal. But once the membrane switches wear out or the board shows water damage, repair isn’t cost-effective. A repair that starts at $120 in labor on a part that’s already seven years old rarely makes sense compared to a $200 replacement that carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise.
Most keypad and receiver replacement jobs in Brooklyn take forty-five minutes to an hour and a half from the time we arrive. A full telephone entry system install with new wiring can take two to four hours. We give you a time estimate when we quote the price, and we don’t rush the programming at the end, because that’s where most access control jobs go wrong.
We keep the most common LiftMaster keypads and receivers stocked on our trucks, along with the mounting hardware, wire, and connectors. That’s why we can usually finish the job on the first visit. If you need a part we don’t have on board, we’ll give you a clear timeline and be back as soon as it arrives. We also carry parts for Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing systems, in case you have more than one gate on the property.
