We stock and install Linear-compatible hinge and roller replacement parts across Brooklyn, with most complete replacements running between $180 and $340 installed, parts included. If your gate has started dragging, squealing, or catching mid-swing, there’s a strong chance a worn hinge or seized roller is the culprit, and we can usually have it swapped the same day we look at it. You’ll get a written price before we touch anything, so there’s no guessing what the job costs.
Most Brooklyn owners notice the problem the same way: the gate that used to swing with one hand now takes a shoulder, or it makes a sound like a shopping cart with a bad wheel. Sometimes the gate sags just enough to scrape the sidewalk or the post side, leaving a fresh scratch line in the paint. These are all hinge and roller symptoms, and on Linear gates they’re common enough that we keep the most-worn sizes on the truck.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
Linear’s residential swing gate operators, particularly the LRA and older APeX series, rely on a standard barrel hinge and roller configuration that’s shared across a handful of gate frame styles. The compatibility gotcha worth knowing: Linear’s slide gate rollers are not universal. A roller from a Viking or Ghost Controls gate will often be 2mm too tall or off on the bearing shoulder, which means it binds within the first month. We measure the roller diameter and axle pin before we order or pull a replacement, because guessing on a Linear gate means a second service call.
If you’re trying to identify your own part, look for the label on the operator arm or the motor housing first, then check the hinge leaf for a stamped number. Most Linear hinges are 4-inch or 5-inch leaf lengths, and the barrel diameter tells you whether it’s a gate-hinge proper or a lighter post-mount pivot. For the roller side, you’re looking at either a 2-inch or 4-inch sealed bearing roller depending on gate weight. We install OEM Linear replacements when they’re available, and we also keep a small set of quality aftermarket equivalents that have held up well in Brooklyn’s wet winters and salt-air stretches near the water. Latch and Post Gate Repair Brooklyn is an independent service provider; we’re not affiliated with Linear, but we’ve been working on their equipment long enough to know what fits and what doesn’t.

Signs Your Linear Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side. When the bottom hinge barrel wears, the gate drops a quarter to half an inch, and the latch pin no longer lines up with the catch. You might think the latch broke; it’s usually the hinge underneath it.
- The gate makes a metal-on-metal groan when it moves. That’s the barrel of the hinge grinding against the leaf because the bushing or bearing inside has gone dry and cracked. Grease quiets it for a day or two, but it comes right back.
- The roller wheel skips or flat-spots. A flat spot on a roller bearing makes the slide gate jerk in the track, and you’ll hear a rhythmic thump as each rotation hits the worn section. It’s the roller, not the track, about 80% of the time.
- You see rust staining below the hinge or roller shaft. Water gets into the bearing or the barrel, and rust works its way out along the pin. On gates near the Gowanus or along the Shore Parkway, we see this accelerate faster than in inland neighborhoods.
- The gate is harder to push off the closed position. A roller that’s seized turns the track into a brake, and the motor works harder on every cycle. It’ll eventually trip the overload sensor on the Linear board, which makes owners think the operator died when the mechanical part is really the problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Brooklyn, we price Linear hinge and roller replacement by the job, not by the hour. A single roller swap typically lands between $90 and $160. A full hinge set with both rollers usually runs from $180 to $340, depending on whether we’re replacing barrel hinges in a brick pier or a steel post, and whether the gate needs realignment after the new parts seat. You’ll see the exact number in writing before we start, and that’s the number you pay.
What’s included: the part itself, disposal of the old hardware, shimming and realigning the gate leaves so they swing or slide true again, and a quiet test cycle with you there to hear it. We lay drop cloths on the floor and put on shoe covers before we step inside, and we send you a photo of the clean-up before we leave. Every replacement is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part fails or the gate drifts out of line within a year, we come back and make it right, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely identify the problem yourself: look for sag, listen for the grind, and check under the roller for rust staining. What gets tricky on Linear gates is the tension. The hinges carry the full weight of the gate leaf, and popping a bottom hinge off without supporting the gate can send several hundred pounds swinging into a car, a fence, or a person. Brooklyn gates are often heavier than they look, especially wrought-iron designs that have been repainted a dozen times. The repaint alone adds 20 to 30 pounds.
If you want to try, support the gate on a block and pull one hinge pin at a time. But if the barrel is cracked or the roller shaft is seized, you’re better off calling us at (934) 649-3673. We’ll bring the right part, swap it, and have the gate moving quietly again, usually within the hour.
FAQs
In Brooklyn’s climate, a quality replacement set lasts 5 to 8 years on a well-maintained gate. Gates closer to salt air or those with poor drainage at the roller track tend to wear faster, which is why we steer those customers toward sealed bearings rather than open steel bushings. Call (934) 649-3673 and we can look at your gate’s location and tell you what to expect.
Sometimes, but not often enough to promise. A hinge that’s just dry can be cleaned and re-greased. Once the barrel is egg-shaped or the roller bearing has flat-spotted, the metal is done, and any repair just delays the replacement by a few months. We’ll tell you which situation you have, and you’ll see the price for either option before work starts.
A single roller replacement takes about 30 minutes. A full hinge and roller set with realignment usually runs between one and two hours. We’ll give you a time window when you call, and we’ll stick to it.
We keep the most common Linear roller diameters and hinge leaf lengths stocked on the truck, along with compatible parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls gates. If your exact model needs something we don’t carry, we’ll order it and schedule the install as soon as it arrives, usually within two to three days.
